Aycha Sawa, the first woman elected as Comptroller on April 7, 2020, boasts a distinguished career in government accounting and auditing spanning 14 years. Beginning as an auditor in 2010, she climbed the ranks to Deputy Comptroller in 2017.
As a Certified Public Accountant and Certified Internal Auditor, Aycha prioritizes ethics and professionalism in leading the Comptroller's office. Holding a BBA in Accounting from the University of Wisconsin, she served as the City's CFO and actively contributed to various boards. Aycha's vision as a Comptroller centers on transparency, efficiency, and fiscal responsibility, fostering a financially sound Milwaukee.
Her commitment includes maintaining the office's independence, rigorous fiscal oversight, and transparent financial reporting.

Comptroller Sawa rapidly rose from an entry-level auditor to Comptroller in just 6 1/2 years by being promoted for excellence 5 times! Before that, she worked for Baker Tilly auditing various governments, and as an auditor for the State of Wisconsin.

EDUCATION
In 2006 Aycha received her Accounting Bachelors of Business Administration degree from the University of Wisconsin Madison. After 150 college credits and 4 exams later, she received her CPA in 2010. Then after 3 more exams, she received her auditing certification (CIA) in 2015.
